Melbourne Gardens Festival Mini Tour - MGD

Garden Design Fest is the largest designer open garden weekend held in Melbourne. Started under the patronage of John Patrick this event commenced in 2004 and has since raised over $400,000 for worthwhile charities. The event attracts visitors from throughout Australia, and overseas including New Zealand.
This year’s event will continue to account for every possible taste from family to formal, traditional to artistic and native to Hollywood. This year not only will there be a large variety of metropolitan gardens but also a number of spectacular large gardens in rural Victoria and the Mornington Peninsula. Each designer and their staff will be in attendance at their garden to meet and talk with visitors.
On arrival Melbourne transfer to your city hotel and base for the next 3 nights.
Today we visit eight gardens in metropolitan Melbourne, with designers including Patron John Patrick, Eugene Gilligan, Cameron Paterson, Ros McCully, Inge Jabara, Paul Pritchard, Don Thomson and Phillip Withers. The tour departs from and returns to Federation Square in the Melbourne CBD. Megan Backhouse, the Gardening Editor for the Melbourne Age, will be our on-board gardening guide.

Today we head to the Northern suburbs to visit a garden designed by Steve Taylor and others by Cameron Paterson, Inge Jabara, and Ben Scott. The tour then takes us out towards Mount Dandenong to a beautiful extensive plant garden designed by Sandra McMahon, with plantings that vary at every turn – natives, rose garden, perennial plants, tranquil billabong and more. We then head back into the city to visit one further garden designed by Andrew Whyte before returning to Federation Square.
