Cape Town and Garden Route - XSAE1L

We start in Cape Town, a very popular city with lots to see and do. Then we head to the Cape Winelands, and travel along the southern coast, where if you're lucky you'll spot whales and sharks from the shore in Hermanus. We'll also stop off in Swellendam and Mosselbay. We'll enjoy an included safari in the Botlierskop game reserve, where you'll have the opportunity to see the iconic 'Big 5' animals - the lion, leopard, elephant, rhinoceros and buffalo. We then travel to the scenic Knysna Bay. In Tsitsikamma we take to the trails before heading to the Karoo via the Eastern Cape. Next, we explore the Oudtshoorn region before travelling back to Cape Town along the famed Route 62. This fun-filled trip is a wonderful way to explore South Africa like a local.
DAY 1: Cape Town
Wamkelekile e iKapa. Welcome to Capetown - South Africa's oldest city. Free time until this evening when you will meet your tour leader and fellow travellers and enjoy the welcome dinner (included).

DAY 2: Cape Town city tour
We start with a driving tour of Capetown. Visit the Castle of Good Hope, beautiful St George's Cathedral, the colourful Cape Malay quarter and the oldest garden in South Africa. The afternoon is free for you to explore the city including the beautiful Vanda Waterfront in the city. Then (optional) try the cable car ride up Table Mountain.

DAY 3: Cape Town
Free day today to explore Capetown at your leisure. Famous attractions include Robben Island, the Two Oceans Aquarium, wine tasting in Constantia, or the Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens. If you want a planned adventure, join us on the optional day trip to Cape Point nature reserve to de discover the Cape flora and beautiful landscape. Next visit the penguins at Boulder's Beach and stop for lunch in Kalk Bay.
DAY 4: Cape Winelands - Stellenbosch – Hermanus
Today we're off to the Cape Winelands. South Africas wine industry is also the oldest outside of Europe. We have breakfast and then go on a drive through this beautiful area. We have a traditional lunch in the vineyards then drive to Stellenbosch, a beautiful university town, established by French Huguenots in the 1600s. We see Cape Dutch architecture, boutiques and art galleries. Before we head to Hermanus for overnight.
Included experiences: Wine tasting and lunch at a vineyard in the famous Western Cape. Stellenbosch - free time to explore the historical university town. Hermanus - Savour the stunning coastal views as we make our way to Hermanus, where you’ll have a free evening to explore this delightful town on the Cape Whale Coast Route.

DAY 5: Shark Diving Excursion - Swellendam - Mossel Bay
Today we start on the Garden Route after some free time in Hermanus. Between June and November there are whales in these waters which can be seen from the shore. Or go on the optional shark cage diving experience. We stop for lunch enroute to Swellendam. Taste traditional South African foods. Outside of Albertinia we stop at the Cape Aloe Vera farm. Next, we leave for Mossel Bay, a popular coastal village then at Pinnacle caves, where fossils of 170 000 years have been discovered.
Included experiences: Swellendam - check out the striking mix of Italian Baroque and French Gothic architectural influences.Aloe Vera farm - one of the original aloe factories in the Hessequa region. Mossel Bay - visit Pinnacle Point Caves, a Provincial Heritage Site where human bones of between 40,000 and 170,000 years ago has been discovered.

DAY 6: Garden Route: Game Drive - Knysna – Tsitsikamma
First stop is Botlierskop Private Game Reserve for a safari. You have the chance to see wildebeest, rhino, giraffe, elephant and lion. At Knysna in the heart of the Garden Route. board a paddle boat for an optional lunch lagoon cruise, or explore the harbour and have lunch at a local restaurant. This afternoon you have the choice of two optional excursions - roam free with the monkeys at Monkeyland, or visit Birds of Eden, the world's largest free flight aviary / bird sanctuary, before we leave for Tsitsikamma National Park for overnight.
Included experiences: Botlierskop Game Drive - see wildlife on an open vehicle safari truck. Knysna - a quaint town known as "the beating heart" of the Garden Route.

DAY 7: Tsitsikamma National Park & Storms River - Eastern Cape
The Tsitsikamma forest is filled with rivers, gorges and mountains. There are lots of fun things to do in this beautiful place. Adventurous (optional) activities include a zipline tour through the trees, or bungee-jump off the Bloukrans bridge. Or stay on the ground to go on a guided bush walk to learn more about the region's fauna and flora. Next, we drive to the Storms River mouth in Tsitsikamma National Park – take a hike through the forest or by the seaside and cross the longest suspension bridge in South Africa. This afternoon we're off to the Eastern Cape coast - known for its long, sandy beaches.

DAY 8: Fruit Route: Route 62 - Oudtshoorn Ostrich Farm - Cango Caves Excursion
Today we head into a semi-desert area. The Karoo - known as 'land of the thirst' passing through Langkloof – an area of fruit and vegetable farms and the foothills of the Kouga and Tsitsikamma mountains. When we reach Oudtshoorn, we have a tour of a working ostrich farm. Enroute to our overnight accommodation there is also the option to visit the famous Cango Caves - over 20 million years old. Tonight we enjoy a delicious Karoo dinner.
Included experiences: Klein Karoo ostrich farm - guided tour which covers the history of ostrich farming, farming practices and the breeding cycle. Tonight taste true Karoo Lamb prepared the traditional South African way. Lamb in the Great Karoo has a very distinct taste due to the fragrant shrubs and grasses sheep feed on in this region.

DAY 9: George - Cape Town
Before we leave Oudtshoorn there is an optional visit to Cango Wildlife Ranch to see cheetah, lemus, crocodile and more. Then continue to Capetown and the end of the tour.
